fresh cinnamon buns from the oven! sad.. the top's chao ta.. :( what to do.. my oven's so small.. the buns almost hit the roof when it was baking in the oven! i modified the recipe and added diced apples and sultanas (soaked in rum again), should taste quite good :P

made a blunder again though, filling was supposed to have soft butter but i went to melt it! basket.. i got a very liquid filling, and of course a very messy rolled dough (and table, and hands and everything), which made it very difficult to cut into the swirly rounds. :S

i made pizza for dinner! but so stupid, we finished the whole thing then realised i didn't take any pictures.. -_-" it's my first time making the dough from scratch (needless to say, i got the recipe from the domestic goddess, my goddess haha) and we put so many toppings! i made 2 different flavours on 1 crust, bbq sauce and tomato based. i thought the bbq was better. my mom said it was very good so i definitely passed :P though i had thought the crust would be the bready kind like pizza hut instead of a crispy one.. nonetheless! i'll make it again :)

oh ya i made green tea mousse and white chocolate mousse with blueberries for the photoshoot as a treat for the models :) but forgot to give dith! :x anyway the mousse wasn't to my expectations because it was a little watery at the bottom T_T need to find a solution for this.

hongkong was fun! but hk air is quite polluted.. got breakouts when i was there T_T but shopping super not enough. bought very little things back. but never mind! planning to go again next year, with angie, cher and yans! best to go hk with girlfriends 'cause we can just shop and shop and shop some more... and i need to save up lots of $$ this time round. will post pictures soon!

need to zzz.. got sick.. cough and runny nose :(

Fresh out of the oven! i just baked this banana bread :) i wonder how it tastes like..

sad, the middle looks like an earthquake hit it. blaaahhh. it's my first try at baking bread! we'll know the taste when i wake up tomorrow. haha. it should taste not bad because it has mashed bananas, chopped walnuts and, best of all, brandy-soaked sultanas. wheee. get high for breakfast. haha.

aaaaand, this recipe came out of my new book, sooo it shouldn't taste horrible. lol.

anyway! can hardly wait to make the mousse and pizza. ran out in the evening to phoon huat and ntuc and bought lots more stuff. too bad 2 hands can only carry that much, otherwise i would've bought the pretty mini cake cutters and the mini cardboard bases. i'm definitely gonna get those the next time round.

oh oh, almost forgot to anounce that i'm flying off to hongkong next monday and will be back thursday night. kinda rush as in the photoshoot's this whole weekend, so must start packing soon. wonder if there'll be much clothes to buy there? still haven't researched the places to visit, to eat and to shop!

dim sum here i come! :D~~

Monday: came across these giant crocs (not that i like them but they just look quite interesting) at ngee ann city's royal sporting house. bugged the bf to slip a foot in and take a candid shot but he refused. hmmph. so i'm left with no choice but to be content with these pics.. (the next thing we knew, 2 malay guys did the exact thing i had in mind and went trigger happy)

yay! this is the end-product of my loot from market place. hehe. almost forgot to take pictures of them because they disappeared quite fast and that in fact, is the last one in the fridge. (i made 8 of these)

brought 3 of it for mu, sharon, dith, auyong and owl to try yesterday at delight n delicious (sharon's bf, derrick's stall). btw, their food is quite good. go try! it's opposite tiong bahru plaza, jalan membina, about 5 minutes walk to the food centre. prices are reasonable and definitely worth a taste :) i like their pastas though they also have main courses and burgers, which i have yet to try :P

anyway, now that i've got feedback, the next tiramisu i make will definitely make the mark! ok, not that it's bad, just that it's not perfect. needs more alcohol n less fingersponge. bf actually liked it! i'm quite surprised 'cause he's not really a dessert person, and he said it's just nice and nicer than what's sold outside. waaaaa.. after hearing that i was on cloud nine man.. lol. aiya, people have personal preferences so there'll always be conflicting views. just happy that everybody enjoyed it :)

i was quite upset at first cause i blundered during the "production" process. when making the sponge, i was kinda stoning and accidentally added the butter before the water. shucks man. i thought the whole cake was spoilt so i made another batch (but also baked the "spoiled" one. might as well) turns out the failed batter also turned out alright, though not as "pong" and feels a bit denser. it was still soft, so my mom sliced it and sandwiched it with strawberry jam. oohhhh, berry good :)

that's not the end of it. i was following a new recipe for the cream filling, and the recipe called for beaten egg whites. omg, that was such a disaster! it was perfect when i mixed in the whipped cream, but when the egg whites went in, the entire thing looked like vomit! what the hell! that one batch is so expensive! half of the mascarpone gone just like that.. what to do, i had to remake. and then it was perfectly smooth and creamy. sigh. i seriously get a big sense of achievement when i make something successfully. just whipping the cream makes me happy. sifting the cocoa powder and shaving dark chocolate on top also made me happy. haha. you never know, if i don't become a makeup artist, i may become a patissiere. lalala..

i'd love to sell beautiful yummy cakes and dainty desserts, bake cookies and muffins and different kinds of bread and filling the kitchen everyday with lovely smells... mmmmm... which means i'll definitely have to have a open concept kitchen well-equipped with all baking needs. then i can cook and bake everyday for my husband and kids. what a perfect life. haha, that's in my dreams, unless i have a rich husband who will support me and i won't have to work in an office... blah. quite impossible.

if possible, tomorrow i'll start on my next dessert. haven't decided what it is, but i'll be making a trip down to phoon huat to get more stuff. will definitely post pictures when it's done! :)

a look into my eco tote... my loot! :) to make desserts!

saw the fresh berries & couldn't resist.. Hehe. super happy! gonna start making different kinds of dessert. will make tiramisu again 'cause i bought the mascarpone, and the berries... i was thinking a mousse and drizzling caramelised berries on top... yummmm..

i saw marsala wine priced at $31-$35 at the Market Place, kinda regretted not buying it for the tiramisu. maybe i'll buy it tomorow hmm..

oh and i saw very fresh and beautiful strawberries too! nicely packed in a tray and makes me wanna buy, but it's $14.90! :( if i didn't buy the berries i'd consider. haha. that bagful of stuff already cost me a whopping $64.20 ok! now super broke.

made my wallet even more holey was my biggest splurge on books so far: Nigella Lawson's How to be a Domestic Goddess, which cost me $48.10 at Borders. T_T c'mon, take a flip through those recipes and accompanying pictures, you'll also feel like buying loh! :P show you the cover first :P

anyway, after i bought the book i chanced upon Bill Granger's Every Day

i was like, basket!!! i want this book too! i don't think i told anyone, but i absolutely love bill granger! haha. i watched almost all the episoses which aired on channel 5 quite a long time ago, and i jotted down most of the recipes. love his food! for housewives who are sick of cooking at home or have run out of inspiration, this is THE book for you. looks at food at another level! even though it costs almost $70, i'm going to buy it. AND invite the girls to come over and be my guinea pig hahaha..

ehhh.. i cook quite ok.. i think my signature dish should be the pork rolls stuffed with pine nuts and raisins cooked in tomato and wine sauce. i love baking cakes and making desserts most of all i think. cooking is when i invite my friends over or when i have the mood. lol. recently i made dinner and rolled maki for my family. ingredients were simple: unagi, cucumber, carrot, omelette. but i think i did a good job with the rolling haha. darn. should've taken pictures!

i'll try to remember to take pictures, otherwise waste the blog-on-the-go function on my hp. haha.

correction: my LG phone CAN blog on the go.. haha. next time i won't have to wait till i get home to blog. yay :D

forgot to take pictures of the Pu Tian Restaurant at Kitchener Road, the place we went for dinner today :( still not really used to the hp cos blogging on the hp takes up quite a bit of time, plus i was busy eating! the food is good, especially one of their specialties: heng hua lor mee. it looks more like ban mian (yew mian, in fact) but it tastes even better! dang. now i really wished i had taken a nice picture of it to show you.

dunno why, but we suddenly talked about where our dad was, because he had to work til a bit later and couldn't join us. we were guessing he's at montero's pub, his favourite haunt (there's pool table there together with all his friends :X) or could he be at home? we all concluded that chances of him being home is like 0.1% haha. mom jokingly bet with us that he's at montero's. lol. she won, because we went to surprise dad. hahaha. machiam like family day, the boss said. basically, we had a fun time there, i had a shandy, played pool with my brother (won him 2/2) and watched the pro (my dad). luckily it wasn't crowded today or i would've been damn stressed. imagine many pros looking at you play then see you so noob. lol.

ok, need to go. mu's coming over my place tomorrow to test lighting and i'm probably going tpy to buy lipsticks for the shoot. and i need to buy the backdrop!

p.s. the curry rice shop opposite pu tian restaurant smells damn good! gonna try it the next time round :)

Gotcha! Caught in the act.. Of drinking dark mocha frappp..

at starbucks resting our legs. Haha. First time i'm blogging on the go! Whee! :P

whee! mu sent me a number of pictures to look at the poses i could use for the shoot. they are nnnnnice!
take a look:

hope i can find a backdrop that's similar to the pictures. the backdrop's gorgeous!

oh ya, bought the clarins shaping face lift yesterday! yay! seriously, it's been only 2 days and i can see results already. worth the money! haha.
i finally got it.

i also bought M.A.C's contour palette, which i love to the core. can't wait to use for the photoshoot!

also bought quite a few more M.A.C products. and yay i finally got my 6 empty M.A.C containers to exchange for a free lipstick! actually wanted to get the limited edition lippie but it was just sold out. sad. nonetheless i got a nice colour, could've gotten red but i didn't cos i think can just use my existing red to blend with other colours. the lipsticks are all sooooo nice i wish i had the entire collection. wahaha.

last but not least, i painted my nails today. got the nail polish from The Face Shop. hope to do nails for the shoot as well since not really going to do much hairstyling. this is the result of my crazy idea:

my cam didn't catch the exact colour. it's more fuschia than it looks haha. my first time trying to do gradient nail colours. not very good but not bad for a first timer. heh.

dunno why, i'm just so lazy to blog nowadays. really regret not getting a hp that can blog on the go. that'll be interesting. anyway, i recently did makeup for a charity concert. as it was a charity concert, i didn't get paid, but just took it as an experience and i got portfolio photos. heh. but they were taken by my digi cam and with my lousy skills haha. and the photos can't really see the makeup! should've taken superrrr closeup. sad.

the charity concert was actually a singing performance by hosanna music ministry for the montfort brothers. kind of like God's arrangement that the makup artist is also catholic, no? anyway auyong msged and said they were urgently looking for makeup artists, and since i was free.. the concert goes on for 2 days and plus the full dress rehearsal so it's really a short stunt kinda thing. fun for me because i love putting makeup for people and making them look good haha. and the girls were a nice sweet bunch, and trusted me to put "unknown" (to most of them la) stuff on their faces LOL. there were guys too but i forgot to take pictures.. but their makeup is very simple so it doesn't really matter also. it's quite hectic to do girls 'cos their makeup's all different, for guys jus slap on foundation, fill the brows and some bronze blusher and they're good to go.

these are the 6 ladies whom i was "in-charge" of:

maybe next year i'll do it again..

FINALLY! exams are over! and i just came back from malaysia on the 12th. attended nicholas's 2nd brother's wedding, one at KL, the other back at sitiawan. quite busy actually, did hair and makeup for his mom and sort of became the stylist also. lol. i can do hair! haha. too bad the pictures are with the oldest brother now. will get from him and maybe add to my portfolio?? i was supposed to do makup for the bride at the sitiawan banquet, but last minute they went to a bridal shop so i didn't need to do. it would have been a good experience for me but i've never done it and well, wedding's a once-in-a-lifetime thing so if i don't do it nicely it would've been a bad memory for the bride.. :( but it would be really nice to have a bridal picture for my portfolio hor? talking about makeup, i'm going to do another photoshoot for my portfolio with mu! better start putting all my ideas unto paper first and then we can confirm all the details. then again, i need to start looking for a job first. that's on the top of my to-do list.

anyway, bought quite a lot of foodstuff back from malaysia. the best is the xiang bing (fragrant biscuit) or what the cantonese will call heong peyng(?). it's damn good! and the saddest part is i only bought one pack.. argh. should've bought like at least 3! now i know what to buy home the next time i go. my mom loves it by the way. haha.

i've mostly been shopping ever since i came back from malaysia 'cause i didn't buy a single piece of clothing there! the only thing i bought was food. sad. the topshop over there is like even more expensive when u convert the RM into SGD. on monday i went to chinatown and vivocity with dith and mu to shop. mostly me shopping of course. >_< bought the high-waisted pencil skirt i wanted! also bought a top at the thai fair at vivo. last day so the stuff were going cheaper, but not much stock left. still not enough shopping for me. feel like getting a branded working bag, but budget is tight. :| went town today (tuesday is boyfriend day :)) but didn't see anything nice. should've gone to taka's bag department.

i watched kungfu panda today! damn funny! laughed through almost the entire movie.. i swear to get the dvd. it's definitely a keeper. for those who haven't watched it, please go watch! you don't know what you're missin'!

Sunday, May 25, 2008

haven't posted in quite a while 'cos exams have begun and i don't have the mood to blog already.. will update once my papers are over :P 2 more to go! go go go!

happy birthday to me... :P

P.S. anybody know of an effective slimming gel for the body? need to slim those armssss...

Wednesday, May 07, 2008

hey peipei this is for you! haha. almost forgot about it..

this is us at wala wala's after the screening of dith's fyp, Sleep of the Guiltless at singapore art museum. the band is really good and the whisky dry is very smooth. frozen lime magarita is nice as well :P will definitely go there to chill again after exams. there's a plus of course, food just opposite! breko's tic tac toe fries are very yummy :) if not, walk down to nydc or crystal jade. can't remember if it's open 24 hours or until late though. O_o

heard from grace that she's using clarin's shaping face lift.. i want! desperately need to get rid of my double chin first before anything else. but, it's almost $94! :( it's on my wish list for now..

i bought the bioessence face lifting cream to try but it only tones like temporarily.. the face does slim by like 0.1 or 0.2cm after 10 minutes (if you massage properly) but for maybe less than half the day? definitely not permanent for me. or maybe i'm too impatient to see results? however, there's a redeeming quality: good moisturiser for the neck. the neck shows your real age if you don't apply anything so even if u've got a face wrinkle free but you neglect to care for your neck, beware... saggy and wrinkly neck... haha.

yay! i collected my marc jacobs stam quilted bag on sunday, and guess what! there're marc jacob labels on the bag! on the outside there was marc jacobs paper tag, inside the bag there's a metal label, the clasps are carved with marc jacob.. and i thought it would only be a marc jacobs inspired bag.

anyway, i spree-ed this bag for $48 nett. it's cheaper than getting from B.O.W at far east. lol. and i can't wait for my forever21 dress to arrive! spree-er is going to the post office today :) and i ordered a few clothes from zipia.. couldn't help it! i love the tuxedo-lapels jacket. found a very similar one at mango and guess how much it is? $199!!! a freakin' 200 bucks. zipia's jacket is only USD52. convert to SGD plus shipping, it's not even 100 bucks. wheeee. if you're tempted, check out their webbie: www.zipia.net (if you wanna see the closeups you need an account, or borrow someone's account, you can find it here at the spree-er's blog: vainypotty)

Tadaaaah! i got the LG Viewty and i'm in lurrrve with it! the 5MP camera is good and u can do a lot of things with this phone! i love the touch screen function and when i sms, i can choose between normal keypad, handwriting screen or the qwerty keyboard. love the keyboard to death. best of all, this phone is actually very user friendly. i think like many people, i used to think LG is not very good, but the touch screen phones really changes your impression of the brand. i bet they did a lot of R&D. and so, i should be obsessed with my phone for the next dunno how many days or weeks before i get used to this superb thing. lol.

Monday, April 28, 2008

found another phone! this is the LG Viewty. fully touch screen, with 5MP camera, 3.5G, internal memory is 100MB and supports up to 2GB, etc. and it's on promotion at only $198 at singtel shops with free 1GB micro sd! i'm getting the phone tomorrow so it'll be either the Samsung i780 or this..

i think i'll be dreaming of phones tonight..

i think i might be getting this phone, though i won't be able to fully utilise its functions. nice or not?

Sigh! it's been a while. trying to study for the past few weeks. sometimes i think, what the hell am i studying for.. a paper that secures a certain wage? society sucks. i'm like forced to do something i don't like but have to deal with. BAHHH. can't i just go into makeup? i don't like being cooped up in a cubicle for 8 hours. doing routine work. but what else is there to do man.. no money = can't survive. society is materialistic. money revolves around almost everything. and the more i study the more i get frustrated. am i getting sick in the head?

dith's fyp is screening next saturday at the singapore art museum, and i'm going, even though i'm supposed to be mugging. i'll just make sure i study harder in the day :( here's the poster:

cool huh.. it's a profile of jerry hoh btw, who plays M in the movie.
and this is the invite:

i hope the makeup looks ok on the big screen.. :x

Anyway, i'm damn happy that i'm collecting the makeup pay for the fyp tomorrow (strictly speaking, later today) :D yay! and we will hear everyone in singapore cheer madly on the 30th april cos that's when everybody gets the $150 of the dividend growth, generously donated by our singapore government! whee! whoohoo! and we'll cheer again on the 1st july when we get out gst offset package. haha. we are soooo fortunate and ain't i glad i know it.

Monday, April 14, 2008

arghhh. i feel tired and crappy. whenever i take a break from studying, i play sudoku. am i bonkers or what? i actually find it damn fun. haha. should've bought that $5 sudoku book from that Plaza Sing $5-a-book sale thingy.. darn.

nicholas spoiled the surprise.. he was gonna buy me a hp for my birthday but he spilled the beans. haha.. oh well, it's still very sweet of him :) the problem is, i don't know what hp to buy! i'd been dying to get that motorola lux edition but now that i think about it, i wanna get a good camera phone. an iphone sounds really good but too ex. sony erricson? no nice design. nokia? n series too bulky. the express music one so ugly. moto? i could get the one similar to what i have now, but the camera isn't very good. samsung? maybe. LG? errrrr.... never mind. hrrrmphhh.

the southern floral dress that i-wanted-to-get-but-was-oos is now back in stock! can't believe it. i wanna get it! but need to find an open forever21 spree with cheap exchange rates. :(

study study study! T_T

Monday, April 07, 2008

since it was our 4th year here there's nothing much to do except take goofy pictures. haha.. but this year is packed with people! and i didn't really like that. prefer the serene and quiet sentosa like last year.. but anyway, it's prolly the last year we're celebrating our anniversary here. getting kinda bored. XP

A chameleon in my track. it was bright green and orange when it jumped out of the flowers but i couldn't get the shot of it in time :(
